Deer Trail History & Cam set up

Deer Trails Story

We have always enjoyed watching the animals that have lived on and traveled through our land. Many times we have wondered what the animals do when they are in the woods out back that we can't see. We tried a few experiments like setting up our cam recorder. Not much usually happened in the two hour tapes. So we waited for technology to catch up with our ideas.

In October of 2008 the notion took on reality and we hooked up our first cam. It was rather a crazy affair with a cam recorder up on a tall pole looking down on the squirrel feeder where a young doe liked to visit and eat the feed the squirrels dropped. But out further in the woods, later in the evening we could see the faint outline of more deer eating the corn piled on a bale of hay. So we pressed on.

We discovered web cams, so we built a box to put the cam and computer in and from there Deer Trail has grown to 3 cams placed in a panoramic view. We have added lighting so we can see what goes on at night. We have seen animals that we had only ever hoped on seeing. And because of the technology that we waited for we are able to share what we see in our back yard with the entire world.

Because of Deer Trail we have met people from all around the globe. Each and everyone of you has helped us in some small way, even by stopping in just to raise our viewer count. Your ideas have turned three cams and a chat into an entire web page. Thus Deer Trails Story is not just about what happens in the woods, but what happens when people get together to watch what happens in the woods.
